The tester reports what your browser receives. A key that doesn’t light means no event reached the page — but browsers, operating systems, remote-desktop software and security tools can all filter keystrokes before the page sees them. A “dead” result here is a strong hint, not a verdict; confirm hardware faults on a second device before replacing anything.

Repair at your own risk. The dead-key and laptop checklist guides describe common fixes including cleaning, cable reseating and part replacement.
